We will surgically place the dental implant into the bone. We then have to wait for the bone to integrate with the implant.

The implant is usually designed to allow mechanical fixation of the bone to it over time. This process is called osseointegration.

What Are Implants Made From?

Most implants are made of titanium alloy. The titanium is biocompatible, lightweight and very strong.

However, other materials are now being seen on the market for specific cases made of Zirconium or hybrid materials.

Although the titanium root doesn’t behave entirely like a natural tooth that has more elasticity, it is a very close comparison.

The choice of implant and type of restoration is decided upon at the treatment planning stage.
