Treatment Planning Process for Dental Implants

Are implants painful? | Are implants safe? | Prior procedures | Step by step

Like any treatment solution, it is best if the treatment of choice is the most compatible with the particular situation.

For this reason, a few considerations can be made during the Treatment Planning procedure before a definitive plan of action can be established.

An implant consultation is the best way to understand which implant system is best for you fully.

Treatment Planning Considerations:

  • The number of missing teeth: Your bespoke plan depends on how many teeth are missing and where they are in the mouth. This is because we need to plan how the implant supports the dentition and anchors the artificial teeth.
  • What is the treatment goal, aesthetics or function or both? If aesthetics is a crucial requirement, other teeth may be involved in the overall smile design; otherwise, the plan focuses on restoring the functioning of the teeth, such as the improved chewing ability.
  • The type and systems of the implant: Since there are so many different innovations and technical differences between each implant system and brand, the implantologist must explore the best choices that are the most compatible for your unique situation.
  • The foundation: Here, we will look at the quality and quantity of remaining bone tissue. We have to consider if there is enough of the correct type of bone available or whether we need to carry out pre-implant procedures such as Sinus Lifts or Bone Grafting.
  • Final Aesthetics of the gums. Here the dentist looks to see what the gum line should look like after treatment and whether additional treatment is necessary. Dentists can sometimes carry out gum grafting procedures to re-establish the gingival aesthetics after the implant treatment.
  • Is there any treatment required for the other remaining teeth? We will consider any other restorative or dental treatment you may need. However, your general dental practitioner can carry out this work for you.
  • Do we need to create implant-supported crowns, bridges or dentures? What would be the preferential treatment, and why? This type of understanding is critical to the overall management. We often liaise with your dentist to work in collaboration and true partnership to achieve your aesthetic and functional goals.
  • How will we restore the area whilst the area temporarily is healing from the surgery? While we wait for osteointegration to occur, we need to plan if aesthetics is a consideration. Especially when it involves missing teeth at the front of the mouth, we will probably supply a temporary denture.

Your plan will be unique to you, and your wishes and considerations will be factored into it.

Pain-free

At The Perfect Smile, we understand that patients may be naturally nervous when thinking of undergoing dental implant surgery.

We want to reassure you that the dental implant treatment is not painful due to the proper use of local anaesthetics to numb the bone and gum deeply.

We can also use sedation techniques that also contribute to no pain or discomfort. More.

Treatment Plan
  • Step 1: We will start the process with a highly detailed and thorough comprehensive examination and assessment. We will then construct a customised treatment plan and design your implant treatment.
  • Step 2: An implantologist surgically places your new implant(s) in your mouth.
  • Step 3: We will assess your healing on this review appointment and make sure everything is going as planned.
  • Step 4: The dentist records and impressions to construct the implant’s top part (post and crown).
  • Step 5: The dentist will fit the final part of the implant (post and crown).
  • Step 6: Your final appointment allows you to have any further refining cosmetic enhancements or minor adjustments.

More.

Fast Process

  • Minimal appointments: Unlike traditional dental implant surgery, you will need fewer appointments
  • No lengthy treatment time: The healing time is fast and effective, though individual to each person.
Bone Quality
  • When you lose a tooth, the surrounding bone that holds the tooth in place will diminish in height, width, and volume. This may affect the immediate and final appearance of the gum tissue in this area and possibly the surrounding teeth.
  • The larger the width of bone or the height of the bone, the wider and longer implant can be. A wider and longer implant increases implant stability and thus success. We assess the bone height and width by taking digital radiographs or by taking a CT Scan. More.
