The Problem With Loose Dentures

Our denture-wearing patients often complain that their removable dentures cause discomfort and embarrassment daily.

As restorative dentists, we know the issue that loose dentures can cause.

Dentures can cause gum irritations and mouth infections when feeling separate from your mouth.

They can also make it increasingly difficult to eat naturally and speak.

On top of this, prolonged wearing of these types of dentures can cause the bone in the jaw to shrink; this happens when teeth are not correctly replaced.

Leading cosmetic and restorative dentists, The Perfect Smile aims to help our patients feel 100% comfortable and ensure their teeth are strong and healthy.

Stabilise Dentures With Implants

Implants can fixate and support dentures and bridgework.

As an alternative to removable dentures, fixed dentures are held in place with dental implants to stabilise the treatment and allow the patient to have a more straightforward oral function.

Additionally, implant-supported dentures eradicate the problems of dentures gradually becoming loose.

Traditional dentures:

  • Weakens bone in the jaw
  • A removable device
  • Must be removed to clean and sleep
  • It takes a few weeks
  • Makes eating difficult

Innovative implants

  • Promotes bone growth and robust oral health
  • Requires a short, pain-free surgical procedure
  • Works and operates just like a regular tooth
  •  A few months of healing is necessary for the titanium screw to fuse successfully to the bone.
  •  It makes speaking and chewing easy.

How Do Implants Stabilise Dentures?

In the procedure, titanium screws (implants) with integrated ball-tops are inserted into the jaw, fusing into the bone.

The procedure typically takes about an hour and can be done under local anaesthesia.

Your existing denture is modified to sit comfortably over the implants during the healing phase.

Discomfort during or proceeding with the procedure is usually minor.

Your dentist can prescribe medication to alleviate pain and suggest a modified diet during the initial healing phase.

After the implants have healed, your denture is modified to snap onto the ball-tops.

The denture will be secure until you remove it for cleaning.

Apply upward pressure to the front of the denture with your thumbs to unseat the denture.

At The Perfect Smile, we understand that patients may be naturally nervous when thinking of undergoing dental implant surgery.

We want to reassure you that the dental implant treatment is not painful due to the proper use of local anaesthetics to numb the bone and gum deeply.

We can also use sedation techniques that also contribute to no pain or discomfort. More.

Treatment Plan
  • Step 1: We will start the process with a highly detailed and thorough comprehensive examination and assessment. We will then construct a customised treatment plan and design your implant treatment.
  • Step 2: An implantologist surgically places your new implant(s) in your mouth.
  • Step 3: We will assess your healing on this review appointment and make sure everything is going as planned.
  • Step 4: The dentist records and impressions to construct the implant’s top part (post and crown).
  • Step 5: The dentist will fit the final part of the implant (post and crown).
  • Step 6: Your final appointment allows you to have any further refining cosmetic enhancements or minor adjustments.

More.

Fast Process

  • Minimal appointments: Unlike traditional dental implant surgery, you will need fewer appointments
  • No lengthy treatment time: The healing time is fast and effective, though individual to each person.
Bone Quality
  • When you lose a tooth, the surrounding bone that holds the tooth in place will diminish in height, width, and volume. This may affect the immediate and final appearance of the gum tissue in this area and possibly the surrounding teeth.
  • The larger the width of bone or the height of the bone, the wider and longer implant can be. A wider and longer implant increases implant stability and thus success. We assess the bone height and width by taking digital radiographs or by taking a CT Scan. More.
