what problems can you have with dental fillings?
It is quite normal for teeth to feel a little sensitive when they are initially done. This is because the tooth needs to adjust itself to the new restoration. However, after a few days this soon subsides.
If the sensitivity does not dissipate then you may need to revisit the dentist to determine whether the tooth requires any further treatment. Some patients may just be more sensitive than others and simply require painkillers for a while.
Subsequently, it is important that you have regular check-ups with the dentist. This is so the dentist can re-examine each filling and restoration in your mouth to make sure that it is still secure and not deteriorating in any way.
Some people may have poor dietary habits or poor oral hygiene; others may simply be more susceptible to decay. If left unchecked the decay can spread to other parts of the tooth leading to infections. We need to check your fillings on a regular basis to both conserve and prevent any future dental decay.
Also, continual wear and tear of teeth through eating and chewing can cause some fillings to wear away faster than others. This too can lead to further discrepancies in your bite patterns.
The dentist will assess that all is ok during your routine recall appointments.
Comprehensive Health Assessment
If you feel that you have had fillings in your mouth for a while or are aware of any symptoms, please book in for a comprehensive Health Assessment. This is a detailed examination of the biological status of your mouth to check for any infections and to determine the structural integrity of every tooth.
We also do a bite analysis to ensure your bite is stable and balanced. If you wish, you can book a complimentary Consultation beforehand to explore your options.
