What Does The Orthodontic Examination Involve

Invisalign examination and consultation

What to expect from your Invisalign consultation

We know the importance of only suggesting suitable treatment options to provide you with the best possible outcomes.

And when it comes to Invisalign, even though it’s very versatile, it does have its limitations, which means not everyone can qualify for the treatment.

But this what your assessment is for; we will analyse the current condition of your bite, oral health, jaw joints, gum foundation and the overall structural integrity of your teeth.

Every aspect of your mouth is an individual piece of a bigger picture.

Our assessments are very detail orientated and it could take up to 2 hours to gather and go through your results.

why is an oral examination important?

Our oral assessments are designed to ensure that your oral health and hygiene is in good condition.

Bad teeth can cause problems and can even affect the success of your treatment – and we do not want your treatment to fail!

That’s why it’s extremely important that we examine your mouth for symptoms of gum disease, infection and tooth decay.

We need to ensure harmony in every aspect to create a balanced and smooth functioning mouth.

This is the key to your dental success.

However, there are other important reasons to undergo an Invisalign consultation, and that’s to ensure that you are a suitable candidate.

  • No impressions
  • Completely comfortable experience

The first and best place to start is checking your smile! We will check to see if your teeth and gums are healthy before we go forward and take any scans.

Invisalign requires good oral health – gum disease will not be so threatening as we have found that Invisalign can be helpful in protecting your gums and ensuring you keep them clean and healthy.

Whereas, for example, if you have a cavity, this will need to be treated prior to receiving Invisalign – this is because it’s a much higher priority over misalignment.

If you were to treat the cavity in the middle of Invisalign, this can slow things down as you will need new aligners because fillings will change the shape of your tooth.

Other oral defects dentists focus on during your examination

  • Teeth width, depth and height
  • Tooth shape and extent of crowding
  • Spaces – too much or too little
  • Arch width – too wide, narrow or normal
  • Canine distance
  • Overbite and overjet measurements
  • Missing teeth
  • Open bite and underbite
  • Gum condition, teeth state and disorders
  • Jaw joints, facial muscles of mastication
  • Current speech, the relationship of the lower jaw to the upper jaw
  • Habits such as grinding (bruxism) or clenching your teeth

  • No unpleasant taste or smell
  • Swallow and breathe as normal
  • No gooey mess that comes with impression materials

We can take better and more accurate pictures of your mouth that will show you what your teeth will look like once treatment ends.

These 3D images will then be used to plan and map out your treatment using the innovative ClinCheck software.

It’s the ClinCheck software that will be able to show you exactly how your teeth should look and move during the course of your Invisalign treatment – as well as the all-important final outcome.

This makes the process precise and accurate, so much more so than any other aligner system available on the dental market.

It eliminates the need to retake impressions and allows Invisalign to create truly bespoke and well-fitting aligners that move your teeth comfortably and gradually.
