According to a new study, published in the Journal of Oral Implantology last December, maintaining good oral hygiene after the insertion of an implant is key to ensuring they remain stable. Click here for FAQ’s regarding oral hygiene.
Also coating the implants with a rough oxidised layer called TiUnite is invaluable in cases of severe periodontitis, ligament inflammation and inflammation of tooth-supporting bones, as it enhances the stability of dental implants and increases their chance of success. View our successes.
Oral hygiene helps your success in dental treatments
The study is titled “Twelve-Year Clinical and Radiological Results of Maxillary and Mandibular Implant-Retained Bar Overdentures Carried out on Oxidized (TiUnite) Replace Select Implants: A Clinical Case,” and was written by Charles A. Babbush and Marco Tallarico.
The case subject was 51 years old and had been in a motorcycle accident. The patient also had persistent, recurrent tooth decay and a number of broken crowns and older failing implants. Read about tooth decay.
The study analyses the effects of TiUnite coated implants and an improved dental hygiene routine on the stability of a full set of implants.
Findings to help dental implants
The TiUnite material has been shown to promote bone growth, ensuring that the implant fuses with the jawbone quickly and securely. The results of the case study supported this conclusion.
The surgeons who treated the patient opted for over denture prostheses instead of traditional dentures, which made the implants more stable and allowed them to function better, enhancing the quality of life and satisfaction of the patient. See our treatment plans for implant dentistry.
